Spotlight on: Morning Star Catholic School

Since 1960, Morning Star Catholic School has served the community as an accredited, not-for-profit, tuition-based school for special needs students. Teachers encourage students to embrace their potential, enabling them to function more independently while guiding them on their spiritual, academic, social, physical, and emotional journey.Cutting-Edge Medical CareMSCS is proud to provide Nemours CareConnect. This program brings Nemours pediatric care to your student with live, on-demand, secure, HIPAA-compliant video. Our school clinic has access to the same resources that are standard in a pediatrician’s office, but thanks to an exceptional video connection, these resources are even better! Parents can rest assured that if anything were to happen to their child, they can be there in real time — along with a medical professional.Strategic PartnershipsIn addition to our partnership with Nemours, MSCS has also partnered with community organizations such as Winter Park Health Foundation, Planet Fitness, and Youth Basketball of America. We work with Orange County Public Schools to deliver therapy to qualified students. For students who do not qualify for this service, on-site therapists offer speech, occupational, physical, behavioral, and music therapies.Academic ExcellenceWe emphasize reading, math, and language arts to give students a strong academic foundation. We are proud to use the award-winning Unique Learning Systems for instruction. This research-based curriculum is created specifically for special needs learners and offers three levels of differentiated tasks. Thanks to this individualized approach, we can engage students in exciting, hands-on activities and empower them to reach their full potential in a learning environment tailored to their needs. Students are also invited to participate in select Bishop Moore Catholic High School and St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School classes based on individual ability. Extracurricular EnrichmentOutside of the classroom, we provide a range of activities, including computer instruction, adaptive physical education, speech development, Boys and Girls Club, weekly social skills training, field trips, and the Special Olympics, which get our students involved with the community. Our Best Buddy program pairs up MSCS students with BMCHS students. and they attend monthly meetings and social functions together. Through BMCHS and SCBCS, students can also enroll in physical education, art, pottery, band, and music classes. Preparing For the Real WorldOur Transition Program helps adults ages 22-30 successfully transition to post-school life. We have partnered with several local businesses to help students experience a true working environment and understand employer expectations. Through tasks meant to increase independent living skills, social skills, and vocational skills, students are prepared for the future and trained to become respected, contributing members of the community. For more than 50 years, the best schools in Orlando have been helping children grow to their fullest potential and become leaders within their communities. We offer unique and dynamic learning environments that engage students and encourage them to become confident and responsible adults. To learn more about what makes us different, contact us today.
